UP CLOSE WITH: Senior Sales Executive Bieke Broothaers

Ontwerp zonder titel 3

In honor of our 50th anniversary, we’re celebrating the people behind Fashion Club 70. Up Close With those who have been part of the company for many years. A series of 12 people, the whole year round, that define the half-century of FC70.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE FASHION CLUB 70 IN ONE WORD?

The first word that comes to mind is 'passion'. After 18 years, I still work here with the same enthusiasm as on day one. I’d also say 'pride', because I’m truly proud to be part of this company and of what FC70 has become.

WHAT IS YOUR ROLE WITHIN THE COMPANY AND WHERE DOES YOUR EXPERTISE LIE?

My title is Senior Sales for Liu Jo shoes, and I also help drive our accessories department. My goal is always to advise clients in the best possible way: helping them choose products that perfectly match their store and target audience. My best tip: I always wear the shoes from the brands I represent. By wearing them myself, I know exactly what I’m selling. Our Liu Jo team is fantastic, we have a great dynamic across different generations. I enjoy mentoring the juniors; sharing experience is valuable, and I also learn a lot from their fresh perspective.

WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER THE MOST SIGNIFICANT CHANGE IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, AND HOW HAS FC70 RESPONDED TO IT?

There have been many changes, but fashion also tends to come full circle. Think of the Buffalos making a comeback, haha. What has really changed, though, is the buying mindset. In the past, clients relied more on intuition, while today, numbers and sell-through statistics play a much bigger role. It makes selling more challenging, but it also leads to more conscious decisions.

WHAT IS YOUR BEST MEMORY AT FC70?

Without a doubt, returning to Liu Jo shoes. It truly felt like coming home. I often say, jokingly but sincerely: “I am Liu Jo.” The brand just fits me: from the style to the Italian flair. Maybe it’s because Italy feels like my second home; I speak the language, understand the culture, and have a real connection with the people there. That makes working with the manufacturers even more enjoyable.
